Posted by Maya Perez on

We all love keeping a green, prestine lawn but we also love to know that our pets can be outside without the risk of interacting with toxic pestisides and fertilizers. We wanted to share a few products from brands that we stand behind that can not only keep your lawn healthy but also your pet (and the environment) healthy!

Diatomaceous Earth is one of those products that has a million uses. One of the uses being pest control. It is a natural way to keep pests away from your lawn and is still safe for your fur babies. Use the links below to learn how to use Diatomaceous Earth.

Flea Destroyer is a product we have recently learned about and have fallen in love with. This product is made up of 10 million microscopic, beneficial nematodes. While this product might seem scary and hard to use, believe us it is very simple. All you need to do is use a watering can, hose-end sprayer, pump or tank sprayer to apply the product to lawns, flowerbeds and other yard areas.

The way the nematodes work is by traveling through the soil, penetrating the flea larvae that develop there, and releasing bacteria that kill the larvae. They reproduce inside of the flea larvae, increasing their population by 1000x with every flea killed, meaning that Flea Destroyer only needs to be applied once a year. By ending the flea life cycle before fleas can migrate to pets and homes, Flea Destroyer helps effectively end recurring flea problems naturally, without chemical pesticides.

If you live in Florida and are worried about chinch bugs, fear not because Flea Destroyer also works on those! You do have to apply more frequently to treat other hard to manage pests but the results are worth it.

Our holistic veterinarian, Dr. Cathy, uses Flea Destroyer on her lawn and could not be happier with the results! Her lawn is green and lush along with being flea free. She uses Flea Destroyer along with other holistic pest preventatives and it is a perfect mix to keep the pests away.

Another great way to fight off unwanted lawn pests is to introduce beneficial insects, like ladybugs, into your space. Beneficial insects will kill unwanted pests and not hurt you or your pets.
